The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) is Malta’s national vocational college and the country’s principal accredited educator of merchant-navy seafarers. Its Maritime Institute (part of the Institute of Engineering and Transport) sits in Mosta, while the Nautical Licence short course is delivered by the college’s part-time arm, MG2i — MCAST Gateway to Industry.

The MG2i Nautical Licence course typically runs in 5pm-8pm evening slots over multiple sessions, with a separate practical at sea. A completion letter is issued by the college on successful 100% attendance and is then used to apply for the Transport Malta Oral Examination. Because MG2i is publicly funded, the headline fee of €175 is well below private operators, although Transport Malta exam and admin fees are extra. Additional Nautical Licence cohorts are also offered in Gozo.
