Where Ta’ Xbiex sits

Ta’ Xbiex is the strip of waterfront between Msida and Sliema, lined with embassies, residences, the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Malta Maritime Authority offices. The yacht marina here is a long line of pontoon and stern-to berths along the seafront, technically part of the broader Marsamxett harbour complex but operated as its own marina.

It has a more refined feel than Msida itself, with the yacht club at the heart of it and a strong racing and cruising community using these berths as their home base. For owners who want to be in Marsamxett but with a slightly quieter address than the working end of Msida, Ta’ Xbiex is the choice.

Berthing

Mix of pontoon berths and stern-to alongside the seafront. Capacity from small boats up to about 25 metres. Rates similar to Msida or marginally above. Annual contracts dominate, with some seasonal and transient berthing available through the operator.

Full services on most berths, power, water, and easy walking access to Msida’s chandleries, mechanics and yard facilities. The Royal Malta Yacht Club provides race office, bar, restaurant and changing facilities for member yachts.

Surroundings

Ta’ Xbiex itself is a quiet residential and diplomatic district. Sliema is a 10-minute walk along the waterfront, with shopping, restaurants and the ferry to Valletta. Msida town is similar walking distance in the other direction. The Royal Malta Yacht Club restaurant is open to non-members and is one of the better-value waterfront lunches in the area.

Practical notes

Approach is the same as for Msida, into Marsamxett Harbour past Manoel Island. The seafront berths are exposed to wash from passing harbour traffic and from northwesterlies funnelling down the harbour, so a 15-knot Majjistral can make for a noisy night against the pontoon. Inner pontoon berths are calmer. The marina office can advise on which slot to take based on weather forecast.
