What Pieta Creek is

Pieta Creek is the smaller inlet just south of Msida, separated by a small headland. It’s been used for boat moorings for centuries and now hosts a mix of private moorings, club berths and a smaller commercial marina operation. The vibe is more local and less polished than Msida itself, with smaller fishing and pleasure boats dominating.

Berthing here is harder to come by because most slots are tied up in long-term arrangements with local owners. When availability does open up, the rates tend to be slightly below Msida’s published numbers.

Berthing

Mostly pontoon and pile mooring for boats up to about 15 metres. Larger yachts berth in Msida or Ta’ Xbiex rather than Pieta. The water is well sheltered from all weather, deeply set inside Marsamxett. Power and water available on most berths but some older slots have basic facilities only.

Surroundings

Pieta is a working Maltese town with markets, small shops, casual restaurants and direct bus links to Valletta. It’s not a tourist destination, which is the appeal for some owners. Provisioning is easy, mechanics and chandlery are a 10-minute walk in Msida, and the area has a settled local rhythm rather than the seasonal swell of more central marinas.

Practical notes

Approach is via Marsamxett Harbour past Manoel Island and Msida, then into the southern creek. Watch for moorings on the approach, especially the small fishing boat moorings on the western side. The creek is calm in almost all conditions but the entrance can have wash from passing harbour traffic. Most berthing arrangements here are made through local agents or directly with the marina operator rather than through walk-up enquiry.
