Turn your boat into income — we handle the booking, you handle the boat

List Your Boat

Fri 15 May 2026 by [email protected]

Turn your boat into income. Reach guests looking to charter in Malta — we handle the booking, you handle the boat.

How it works

  1. Register an account — sign up free in under a minute.
  2. Add your boat — head to My BoatsAdd New Boat, fill in your details, prices and at least five photos.
  3. We review and publish — our team checks your listing and puts you live on rentaboat.com.mt.
  4. Get bookings, get paid — guests book through the platform, we collect, and you receive your payout on the day of the charter.

Commission

Standard commission is 15%. If your boat books frequently, we’ll happily negotiate a lower rate as your volume grows — just talk to us.

How the money flows

  • The guest pays a 15% confirmation deposit when they book.
  • You raise the remaining balance through the platform on your own payment terms — and can include a refundable security deposit on the final invoice if you want one.
  • Rent A Boat pays you out on the day of the charter — the full guest payment less our commission.
  • Security deposits are held by us and returned to the guest after the charter, or released to you in the event of documented damage.
  • We’ll request your banking details (EUR / IBAN) at first payout.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to skipper my own boat?

It’s entirely up to you. Some owners skipper their own boats, others hire a professional captain, and some give guests the option of either. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s clearly stated in your boat’s terms so guests know what to expect before they book.

Who’s responsible for the boat’s insurance?

You are. Every boat listed with us must have valid commercial charter insurance in your name — we don’t carry coverage on your behalf. If you’re not sure your current policy covers paying guests, talk to your broker before listing.

What licences do I need before I can list?

Your boat must hold a valid Commercial Vessel Code (CVC) licence issued by Transport Malta, with all the required safety equipment certified and in date. Without a CVC licence you can’t legally take paying guests on board in Malta, so this is the first thing to sort out.

Are fuel and cleaning included in the price?

That’s your decision. You can build them into the headline rate to keep the booking simple, or list them as separate extras that guests pay on the day. Whichever you choose, just be transparent about it on your boat’s page so there are no surprises at the marina.

Where and how does the handover happen?

You set the meeting point, the time, and the keys-and-briefing process — whatever works for your marina and your boat. Spell it out clearly in your terms so guests turn up at the right place at the right time.

How is VAT handled?

Each boat carries its own tax rate, which you configure when you set up the listing. If you’re VAT-registered the rate is added to the price the guest sees; if you’re exempt, you can set it to zero. We don’t collect or remit VAT on your behalf.

Who decides the cancellation policy?

You do. Set the rules that suit your business — strict, flexible, or somewhere in between — and they’ll be shown prominently on your boat’s page so guests agree to them before they book.

Can I set my own prices?

Yes, fully. You control the base rate, with separate weekend pricing if you want it, plus seasonal adjustments per boat. You can update prices at any time and they’ll apply to new bookings going forward.

How many photos do I need?

A minimum of five good-quality photos per listing. Guests browse with their eyes first, so more (and better) photos almost always mean more bookings — exterior shots, interior, deck, captain’s view, and anything that makes your boat stand out. You supply them.

Can I block dates when the boat isn’t available?

Yes. Block any dates you want for personal use, maintenance or other commitments. You can also sync our calendar two-way with platforms like Click & Boat, so a booking on one site automatically blocks the dates on the other. See Sync Your Calendars for the setup steps.

How long does it take for my listing to go live?

Every new listing is reviewed by our team to make sure the details, photos and pricing look right before we publish. We aim to turn this around quickly — usually within one to two working days.

How do reviews work?

After a confirmed charter, the guest gets an email inviting them to leave a review on your boat’s page. You can reply publicly to any review — a thoughtful, polite response is often the best way to handle the occasional less-than-perfect comment, and prospective guests notice.

How do I talk to guests?

Before a booking is confirmed, all chat goes through the platform inbox — that way we have a record if a question ever comes up later. Once a booking is confirmed, you’re free to share direct contact details (phone, WhatsApp) for the practical handover bits.

What happens if a guest damages the boat?

We act as mediator. Take photos at handover and after the charter, gather any other evidence (videos, written statements), and send everything to us. We’ll handle the conversation with the guest, deduct from the security deposit if one was collected, and keep you informed throughout. You’re never on your own.
