What Xwejni is
Xwejni Bay sits west of Qbajjar and is the heart of Gozo’s salt pan area. Limestone platforms cut into squares where seawater is evaporated to harvest salt, a tradition still practised today, line the shore. The bay itself is small and rocky, with limited beach access from land. By boat it’s a quiet alternative to Marsalforn and Qbajjar.
Anchoring
Sand patches in rocky bottom in 4 to 8 metres. Holding is patchy, set in sand. North-coast exposure same as the rest of this stretch. In settled summer conditions the anchorage is workable. In fresh northerlies it’s the wrong day.
Practical notes
No formal facilities aside from a small kiosk in season. The salt pans are worked through summer and the bagged Gozitan salt sold on shore is a worthwhile souvenir. The swim is excellent, the rocky edges are good for snorkelling, and the absence of crowds is the appeal. A useful third stop on a Marsalforn-Qbajjar-Xwejni north-coast cruise.
