Why Wied il-Ghasri is unmissable
Wied il-Ghasri is a narrow inlet on Gozo’s north coast, cut between cliffs that rise 30 metres straight from water that’s clearer than most swimming pools. There’s a tiny pebble beach at the head, accessed from land by a long flight of steps that puts off most visitors. By boat, the inlet itself is too narrow for proper anchoring, but the bay just outside is workable and the swim into the inlet is one of the best in the islands.
Anchoring
Anchor offshore in 8 to 15 metres on sand patches. Holding is reasonable. The inlet itself is for tendering and swimming, not for tying up. North coast exposure means settled conditions are essential. Northerly weather makes the whole stretch untenable.
Practical notes
No facilities. Bring everything. The cliffs are properly impressive, the water clarity is exceptional, and the snorkelling around the edges of the inlet is some of the best on Gozo. Pair with San Blas Bay and Ramla Bay for a north-coast Gozo morning that’s reliably the best half-day on the water in Malta and Gozo combined.
