The urban beach reality
St George’s Bay is the small sandy beach in the heart of St Julian’s, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and the buzz of the resort district. It’s the busiest urban beach in Malta and not the place you go for tranquillity. By boat it’s a curiosity rather than a destination, useful if you’re staying nearby and want a swim, less useful if you’ve got the whole coast to choose from.
Anchoring
Sand bottom in 3 to 6 metres in the bay itself. Limited space because of the swim zone and the constant traffic of small boats and water sports operators. Holding is fine. Shelter is good from south through southwest. Northeasterlies bring chop straight in, and easterly weather closes the bay for any sensible anchoring.
Practical notes
Full urban facilities. Restaurants, bars, hotels, beach kiosks, water sports rental. The bay is busy with paddleboards, jet skis and tourist boat traffic. For a day on the water you’re better off heading north to Mellieha or south to one of the quieter Marsamxett anchorages. For a quick lunch stop with hotel facilities right there, it works.
