What Slugs Bay is
Despite the name, this is a tiny rocky inlet near Marfa on Malta’s north tip, popular with locals for the clear water and the absence of crowds. The name reportedly comes from the sea slugs found in the rock pools, and the bay has a sort of insider following among Maltese who tell each other about it but rarely advertise.
Anchoring
The bay is too small and rocky for a proper anchorage. The approach is best handled by anchoring offshore in 8 to 12 metres and tendering in, or by small RIBs and motorboats that can drop a hook on a sand patch in 3 to 5 metres just outside the inlet itself.
Practical notes
No facilities, no kiosk, basic walking access from a track on the cliffs above. The swim is excellent, the rock formations are genuinely interesting, and the lack of crowds is the whole point. Combine with Armier and Little Armier nearby for a north-tip morning that hits three quiet bays in a row.
