The underrated Comino bay
Santa Marija sits on Comino’s north side, a small sandy bay backed by the chapel after which it’s named. It’s the only proper sandy beach on Comino aside from the famous lagoon, and it sees a fraction of the visitors. For owners who want Comino without the chaos, this is the answer.
Anchoring
Sand bottom in 3 to 8 metres. Holding is good. The bay opens north so summer northwesterlies wrap into it and bring some chop, but the depth limits how much swell can build. In southerly conditions the bay is glassy. Easterly weather is uncomfortable.
Practical notes
No facilities. The chapel above the bay is a small white building visible on approach. The swim is excellent, the sand is finer than the rocky shores of the rest of Comino, and the snorkelling along the edges is rewarding. Combine with Crystal Lagoon for a quiet alternative day on Comino, skipping Blue Lagoon entirely if the crowds aren’t your scene.
