Why San Blas is special
San Blas is the smaller, more remote version of Ramla Bay, sitting just to the east on Gozo’s north coast. Same red sand, even more vivid in colour, but with a much steeper road approach that puts off most casual visitors. From the water it’s one of the best swim stops in the entire Maltese archipelago.
Anchoring
Sand bottom in 4 to 8 metres. Holding is good. North coast exposure same as Ramla. Settled summer conditions are reliable, fresh northerlies make the bay uncomfortable. Space is limited and on summer weekends the bay fills up with day boats and a handful of yachts.
Practical notes
A seasonal kiosk on the beach in summer. No road access for cars right to the beach, just a steep path that’s properly steep. Most visitors arrive by boat. The swim is excellent, the snorkelling along the rocky western edge is some of the best on Gozo’s north coast, and the absence of the development that mars some other beaches is the whole appeal. Get there mid-morning before the day boats arrive.
