What Mistra Bay offers
Mistra Bay tucks into the coast just north of St Paul’s Bay, between Selmun and Mellieha. It’s an undeveloped bay with low rocky shores, a small pebble beach, and almost no land facilities. Most visitors arrive by boat or via a rough track that doesn’t see much traffic. From the water, it’s one of the more genuinely quiet anchorages on the north coast.
Anchoring
Good holding in sand and weed in 4 to 9 metres. The bay opens to the northeast, so the dominant summer northwesterly is well sheltered. In Grigal conditions it becomes the wrong place to be. Most days in summer it’s calm, with the breeze blowing over the surrounding hills and the water in the bay barely ruffled.
Space is sufficient for a dozen boats without crowding. On weekends in peak summer it fills up but never reaches the chaos of Mellieha or Comino.
Practical notes
No beach facilities, no kiosk, no parking by the water. That’s the appeal. Bring your own provisions, rubbish bags out, leave the bay as you found it. The swim is excellent, the snorkelling along the rocky edges is rewarding, and the absence of jet ski operators makes for a properly peaceful afternoon. A genuine alternative to the busy bays for owners who actually want to anchor and relax.
