What Hondoq is
Hondoq ir-Rummien is a small sandy bay on Gozo’s southeast tip, looking directly across the channel to Comino. It’s a popular local swim spot and one of the easiest swim stops by boat from Mgarr Harbour, just a short hop round the headland. The bay is wide enough to handle the day boats but small enough to feel intimate.
Anchoring
Sand and weed in 4 to 8 metres. Holding is reasonable, set the anchor in sand patches. Excellent shelter from northerly weather. Southerly winds wrap in and make the bay uncomfortable. The view across to Comino is one of the better anchored views in the islands.
Practical notes
Kiosks on the beach in summer, basic facilities, tender ashore easy. The swim is excellent and the snorkelling along the western rocks is good. A useful first or last stop on a Gozo cruising day, especially when basing the boat in Mgarr. Combine with the Comino crossing for a full day or pair with Mgarr ix-Xini on the south coast for a Gozo loop.
