Gnejna character
Gnejna sits south of Ghajn Tuffieha and is the third in the trio of west-coast bays. Unlike Ghajn Tuffieha, the road runs right down to the beach, so it draws weekend crowds with cars and BBQs. The character is less polished, more local, and the line of small boat houses on the south side gives it an old-school working-fishing-village feel.
Anchoring
Sand and clay bottom in 4 to 7 metres. Holding is good. Same west-coast exposure as the other bays in this stretch, with the morning calm and afternoon swell pattern in summer. The bay is wider than Ghajn Tuffieha and shelters slightly more from the northwest because of the headland to the north.
In fresh northwest conditions Gnejna is the best of the three west-coast bays, partly because of the slightly better wind angle and partly because the bay shape diffuses incoming swell.
Practical notes
The beach has kiosks and basic facilities. Boat house owners are friendly but the small private moorings and slipways are theirs, so don’t tie up at them or block them. Tender ashore in calm conditions, similar caveats to Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha when the swell builds. Worth it for the character alone, especially if you’re looking for somewhere less polished than the resort-style northern beaches.
