Why Crystal often beats Blue
Crystal Lagoon is the deeper bay on Comino’s west side, with sea caves, clearer water than Blue Lagoon for swimming through, and a fraction of the crowds. The colour is more royal-blue than the famous turquoise of Blue Lagoon, but for actually enjoying the water, Crystal is the better stop.
Anchoring
Sand and rock mix in 8 to 15 metres, deeper than Blue Lagoon. Pick the sand patches and set the anchor carefully. Holding is reliable in sand. The lagoon is exposed to westerly weather but well sheltered from north and east. In summer northwest winds it can get uncomfortable as swell rolls round the headland.
Space is limited and on busy days the few good anchoring spots are taken early. Get there before 11 if you want the best position.
Practical notes
No land facilities. Bring everything. The sea caves on the west side of the lagoon are accessible by tender and properly impressive. Combine Crystal Lagoon for lunch with Blue Lagoon for an early or late swim, and you’ve cracked the Comino crowds problem properly.
